Lace can be a difficult fabric to sew, but there are things you can do to make it easier to sew. You can prepare your lace by cleaning and cutting it, and making sure you have the right matching material to go with it. Change the way you sew lace and get the best results for your projects!

1. Wash your lace cloth first, otherwise it will be difficult to take care of. To make your lace fabric easier to sew, wash gently by hand and lay flat to dry. Be careful not to twist the lace, but gently squeeze out excess water.

2. Identify the front and back of the lace. "Correct" and "wrong" are sewing terms referring to the front and back of fabric. The right side of the fabric (the side you want to see) is the right side. The back of the fabric (the part you want to hide) is the wrong side. In some cases, both sides may be the same. Check your knitted lace to see which side is right and which side is wrong.

3. Consider ironing your lace. Of course, if your lace fabric isn't wrinkled, you don't need to iron it. However, if there are wrinkles or you want it to be perfectly flat, you can iron it before sewing. With the iron on its lowest setting, press down on the fabric in batches until all wrinkles are ironed out.

4. Carefully cut the lace fabric. When cutting lace, it is important to cut along the edges of the main design elements, rather than directly cutting the lace. For example, if there are lace flowers on the lace, just cut off the edge of the petals. Be careful not to snip the main design element of the lace, or you could damage it.

5. Select the base fabric. Your base can match or contrast the color of the lace. For example, you can pair a black lace fabric with a black base. Do not use printed lace fabric as a base for lace material as this will clash with the lace.

6. Choose a thread that matches the color of your lace material. Try taking a piece of lace to a local craft or fabric store, and use that to find the color of thread that works best for your lace.

7. If you want to add a small amount of lace to your dress, or you are using very delicate fabrics, you can sew it by hand.
