Lace Making

Aug 17, 2021

Lace first appeared in the United States. The production of lace is a very complicated process. It is knitted with silk threads or yarns in a certain pattern, unlike some traditional laces in China that are crocheted or embroidered. When making, you need to place the silk thread on each of the small shuttles, each of which is only the size of a thumb. A less complicated pattern requires dozens or nearly a hundred of such shuttles, and a larger pattern requires hundreds of shuttles. Put the pattern underneath when making, and use different knitting, knotting, winding and other methods to make according to the pattern.

A less complicated pattern can take a month or more for a skilled female worker to complete. Because the technique of knitting varies from person to person, lace works are generally completed by one person independently, so each lace is unique. Usually, lace is dyed after knitting, and advanced lace must be dyed first. These hand-made laces are used in some high-end fashions or royal interior products, and ordinary people rarely see them. Due to the exquisite route of lace products, the global limited production method is adopted. Each batch of lace products must be registered, and once sold out, they will never be produced again. Therefore, they are favored by nobles abroad. The so-called "lace" used on clothing refers to all kinds of laces, mostly produced by machines.
