Tips for washing sequined fabrics
Dec 16, 2024
Sequin fabrics are widely used in fashion and stage costumes because of their unique luster and decorative effects. However, washing sequin fabrics requires special care to prevent the sequins from falling off or being damaged. Here are some tips for washing sequin fabrics:
1. Hand wash vs machine wash
- Hand wash: Hand washing is the best way to wash sequin fabrics. Use a mild detergent and gently rub the clothes in warm water. Avoid rubbing hard to avoid damaging the sequins or fabric.
- Machine wash: If you must use a washing machine, it is recommended to choose the gentle mode and turn the clothes inside out. Using a laundry bag can further protect the clothes. Be careful not to wash with other rough clothes.
2. Water temperature and detergent
- Water temperature: Use warm water to wash sequin fabrics, and the water temperature should not be too high to avoid damaging the sequins or shrinking the fabric.
- Detergent: Choose a mild detergent that is suitable for sequin fabrics. Avoid using detergents containing bleach or strong alkalinity to avoid damaging the sequins.
3. Rinse and Dry
- Rinse: Rinse the garment thoroughly, making sure the detergent is completely rinsed out. Detergent residue may cause the sequins to lose their luster or become damaged.
- Dry: Lay the garment flat to dry, and avoid hanging it to avoid pulling on the sequins and fabric. Avoid exposure to sunlight to prevent the sequins from fading or becoming damaged.
4. Special Treatments
- Sequins Falling Off: If sequins begin to fall off, you can use clear nail polish or fabric sealant to apply a protective film around the sequins before washing to prevent further falling off.
- Sequins Wearing Off: To avoid sequins wearing off, you can put the garment in a laundry bag or wrap it with a soft cloth before washing.
5. Regular Inspection and Maintenance
- Regular Inspection: Check sequined fabric garments regularly, especially the areas with more sequins, such as the neckline, cuffs, and hem. If there are signs of sequins falling off or damage, they should be repaired in time.
- Maintenance: Avoid leaving sequined fabric garments in a humid or hot environment for a long time. When storing, avoid storing it with other rough items to avoid scratching the sequins.
Through the above washing tips, you can effectively protect the sequin fabric clothing, extend its service life, and maintain its original luster and beauty.
