What is the difference between lace thread, jade thread, strand thread, and sewing thread?
Lace thread, braided thread (jade thread/strand thread), and sewing thread are divided according to usage.
There are many kinds of lace thread, usually we say lace thread refers to lace cotton thread. It is basically pure cotton with very low other content. But compared to pure cotton thread, lace thread is softer, stronger, and slightly shiny. Wide range of uses, crochet clothing, hats and shoes, home accessories, bags, dolls, etc. are very suitable.
Strands and jade threads are generally used for weaving, and we can collectively call them braiding threads.
Strands are twisted from multiple strands of thin wire. Because the spool stands up like a tower, it is also called the tower line. The strands are divided into 3 strands, 6 strands, 9 strands, 12 strands, etc. depending on the number of strands. Compared with jade thread, the strands are easy to loose, but because it feels softer than jade thread, it is often used for winding and matching of bracelets and necklaces. The 3-strand thread is often used as a high-grade tassel thread because of its softness and slenderness.
There is an axis in the middle of the jade thread, and the outer side is woven with many filaments by machine. It burns and melts. It has texture, feels slightly harder, and the finished product is tighter. Because the thread is relatively thin, the finished product has good shape, texture and fine layers. Commonly used in high-grade fine weaving.
Sewing thread, as the name suggests, is the thread used to sew various materials. According to raw materials, it can be divided into cotton thread, silk thread, thread, polyester thread, nylon thread, vinylon thread, polyester-cotton blended thread and synthetic filament thread.
If you don't have the right thread on hand, or if you want to pursue a special effect, these threads are not completely impossible to mix.
However, the characteristics of the line are designed according to its use. For example, I tried crochet with jade thread. Because the jade thread is harder and slippery, the crochet needle is easy to fail to hook, and it is easier to scatter.
