Three differences between weaving and embroidery

Probably the biggest and most important difference between embroidery and weaving is the craft itself.

Basically, since the name itself comes from the verb "to weave", weaving is a way of creating fabric. It uses two sets of threads and yarns and interlaces them to produce textiles. When weaving, use a loom to hold the warp threads in place. There are filler lines running through them and voila! Woven cloth is created.

Now, on the other hand, embroidery refers to the process of decorating fabric in an artistic way. You've likely seen fabrics sewn with different patterns, which is exactly embroidery. Today, you can see embroidery on coats, denim, hats, blankets, hats, stockings, dresses, and more. Fabrics are often decorated with needles for the application of yarn or embroidery thread.

Sometimes beads, sequins, pearls and quills are even added to the embroidery, so the decoration looks even more magical. Additionally, the color of the yarn or thread used for the craft can be of different colors to match the upholstery fabric and enhance its aesthetics.

Patch

Patches can be made by embroidery and weaving. You must have seen them on jeans, jackets or other types of clothing. Usually, they resemble certain shapes or logos.

Well, even there is a difference between woven and embroidered patches. The former uses thread that is smoother than the fine thread used for embroidery and has no raised structures. For more detailed patches, braiding is the way to go.

Conversely, embroidered patches are much thicker and would not be the wisest choice for detailed designs. They are better suited for military units, security personnel, law enforcement agencies and fire departments.

Create

Another difference to note is the way woven and embroidered fabrics are made, or in other words, the way they are used to aid the unfolding process. For woven fabrics, there is a loom that helps the thread assemble and make the fabric. However, some weaving techniques do not require a loom, such as flatbed weaving.

At the same time, special machines can also be used for embroidery. Sites like Melco or All the Stuff even show sewing machines that can embroider. However, in ancient times it was done by hand with needles, so this was still an available option.
